We never get a true
idea of the value of health until we lose it.
In today’s fast-moving world
we are pushed towards the feel, “let me go to my doctor and cure the disease
once I acquire it, instead why should I spend my life loosing all the tasty,
yummy foods around me?” No that’s not the case when it comes to health because “Health
is wealth” and “Prevention is better than cure.” So never give a chance for
your health to get spoilt and then struggle to bring it back to normal
condition. Instead sacrifice very few things and enjoy a healthier, longer
life.
Having a healthy heart has become the dream of each and
every one of us, but then the world today is making it a greater challenge to
maintain a healthy heart. It’s all left to us to whether to take up the
challenge or let it as such.
Maintaining a healthy heart is not a big task. It can be
done by following 5 important strategies.
- Maintaining a healthy weight
The larger the circumference of the waist, the more the risk
of developing a heart disease. So maintain a healthy weight to maintain a healthy
heart. Maintaining a healthy weight starts with small changes in lifestyle. For
instance, reduce the amount of sugar intake, reduce the time spent in front of
the idiot box “TV,” be more physically active than before, reduce the amount of
white foods and instead switch onto brown foods, fruits and veggies.
2. Opt for a heart-healthy diet
Following a heart healthy diet does not mean cutting back portions. “Fruits, vegetables, whole grains and fiber” food portion rich in these is always healthy for your heart. Take in more servings of these foods.
3. Get at least 30 minutes of physical activity
a day
“Something is better than nothing” suits well when it comes
to physical activity. To begin with, 10 minutes of physical activity a day,
makes a big difference. 30 minutes of physical activity a day can help you
maintain a healthy heart. Physical activity helps in controlling the weight and
reduces the risk of high BP, cholesterol and in-turn strengthens the heart.
4. Avoid smoking and drinking alcohol
Reducing or avoiding smoking enhances heart health. It’s
always impossible to cut down smoking altogether, but cutting down just one per
week could reap the health benefits. Carbon monoxide a byproduct of tobacco
smoke increases cholesterol levels and enhances other risk factors for heart
disease. Why put your heart at risk just for nothing?
5. Get regular health check ups
Without screening it’s impossible to know the
risk factors. Most of the heart diseases are chronic conditions that are genetically
transferred from one generation to another. Knowing whether our genes carry the
risk for a particular heart disease will help us take a better step forward in-order
to prevent the onset of that condition.
